SELF-HOSTING

Tipi – A Self Hosted Personal Home Server Orchestrator

If you are looking to get into self hosting and Docker, sometimes it can seem overwhelming. Having tools to help you along the way to deploy applications with a push of a button seems like a dream come true.

Tipi will do exactly that and more. While it is still very new and fresh off the cooker, Tipi is ready to use with built in applications that you can deploy at the push of a button. Let’s take a look and see what Tipi has in store.

What is Tipi?

Tipi is a personal homeserver orchestrator. It is running docker containers under the hood and provides a simple web interface to manage them. Every service comes with an opinionated configuration in order to remove the need for manual configuration and network setup.

Final Notes and Thoughts

When I first saw Tipi, I immediately thought of another More well known Docker manager called Yacht. Yacht is much more polished and further in development stages. Tipi is like a little brother version of Yacht or your own personal Heroku if you will.

Docker managers like this can be very helpful for those who are less technically inclined when it comes to installing applications. Using Tipi can be a great stepping stone to setting up your self hosted environment however, you are limited to the applications within Tipi. That is, unless you know how to add more applications and can provide a Docker Compose script.

If you found Tipi useful, swing by the Tipi Github repo and give it a star! We’d also love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
